This session explores the topic of suicide through the lens of lived experience, cultural context, and clinical insight. Our approach is personal, trauma-informed, and solution-focused—inviting participants to expand both their awareness and their capacity to respond with empathy, action, and intention.
We will incorporate both data and story—highlighting suicide trends in Nevada and nationally, while sharing our own experiences as a suicide attempt survivor and a loss survivor.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Connect the dots between cultural, historical, and personal narratives of suicide to better understand its complexity across communities.
Recognize the unseen weight of trauma, stigma, and systemic barriers that contribute to suicide risk—especially for marginalized identities.
Use real-world language and trauma-informed approaches to confidently engage someone who may be struggling.
Understand how sharing lived experience isn't just storytelling—it's a proven tool for healing, empathy, and prevention.
Walk away with practical tools, crisis resources, and a renewed sense of purpose in preventing suicide—at home, at work, and in the community.
Shift from being a passive supporter to an active advocate, breaking down the silence and stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.
