Learning Objectives:
Develop an understanding of what it means to be a Recovery Ally, as well as desired skills and actions.
Increase understanding of the nature and dynamics of substance use and recovery, as well as, identify the impact of stigma towards individuals with substance use disorders.
Explore more deeply the skills and roles that comprise allyship, and review the most critical skills for empathy, engagement, active listening, and effective communication. Increase confidence among learners to able to effectively listen and supportively respond to individuals in need.
Introduce ways to broach and guide conversations about a substance use or related issue in a compassionate, caring, and supportive manner. To acknowledge the challenges in having caring conversations and provide guidance on how to handle and learn from mistakes.
Reinforce how the learner can take steps (in their own way) to be a part of the collective change and motivate the learner to make a commitment.
