The webinar will cover Federal Drug and Alcohol Confidentiality Law (42 CFR Part 2) and the Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act (HIPAA). The training will provide information on which programs must comply with Federal Privacy Laws and under which circumstances, and to understand the interplay between the Federal Laws Governing Confidentiality Substance Use Treatment Patient Records and the Health the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Additionally, Nevada specific Privacy Laws will be explored and reviewed in light of Federal Privacy requirements. Finally, a summary of recent revisions to the Federal Laws will be reviewed.
Federal health privacy laws (including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2) provide privacy protections for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment records, and permit sharing of patient records in certain circumstances. Because these laws can be confusing, it can be hard to understand when they apply, what information should be kept private, and what information can be shared, with whom, and when.
On Tuesday September 28th, 2021 from 11:30AM – 1:00 PM PST, CAI and the Network for Public Health Law, in partnership with the Opioid Response Network (ORN), will facilitate a 90-minute virtual training for Nevada providers who create, maintain, receive or transmit SUD treatment information. This training will provide an overview of the federal health privacy laws, under HIPPA and 42 CFR Part 2, and how to apply them in your practice.
