There is a common misconception that behavioral health crises can only be managed by clinical licensed staff, however, according to the 2020 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Guidelines for Behavioral Health Crisis Care Best Practice Toolkit, incorporating and training Peer Support Specialist (PSS) staff can be a safe, effective, and timely program alternative to help with reducing suicide risk of persons in crises. Additionally, allowing thoroughly training Qualified Mental Health Associates (QMHAs) and Qualified Behavioral Aides (QBAs) staff to actively participate on a Mobile Crisis Team can increase the ability of programs to create and operate highly effective Mobile Crisis Teams with ease. Intended as a companion presentation to the Mobile Crisis for Behavioral Health Professional, this training will focus on the significant role that Peer Support Staff can play on a Mobile Crisis Team and, will provide steps organizations can take to build effective Mobile Crisis Teams comprised of Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs – licensed staff) in addition to Peer Support Staff, now serving as QMHAs and QBAs.
