The course is available through the CASAT Learning platform and is open to anyone seeking to apply to become a Certified Problem Gambling Intern in Nevada as well as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug -Supervisor of Certified Problem Gambling Interns in Nevada .  This course is brought to you by the University of Nevada Reno’s Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT) in collaboration with nationally certified problem gambling treatment professionals and professors from University of California Los Angeles and University of Nevada, Reno. Development of this course was funded by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health Bureau of Behavioral Health, Prevention and Wellness.

Please note: This course requires the submission of a workbook in addition to the online modules. This workbook may take up to 10 business days to be graded and expedited grading is NOT guaranteed. If the workbook does not achieve a passing score of 80%, corrections may be requested further extending the grading period.

Description

This 30-hour self-paced course consists of five modules designed specifically for individuals who are seeking to enhance their knowledge of problem gambling disorder and treatment. Successful completion of this learning series will satisfy the Nevada State Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors 30 hour Problem Gambling course requirement for Certified Problem Gambling Intern application as well as the Nevada State Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors 30 hour Problem Gambling course requirement for the Licensed Clinical Drug, Alcohol and Problem Gambling Counselor - Supervisor application - for supervision of certified problem gambling interns in Nevada.

• Psychoeducation on Problem Gambling

• Problem Gambling Assessment and Treatment

• Case Management & Ethical Perspective

• Sociocultural Awareness & Competence

Learning Objectives

By the end of this presentation, participants will:

• be able to define problem gambling disorder, identify its symptoms, and explain its impact on individuals and communities, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of its complexities and underlying factors. 

• be equipped to utilize appropriate assessment tools and develop evidence-based treatment plans for individuals experiencing problem gambling, emphasizing personalized approaches to care that consider the whole person. 

• be able to articulate ethical considerations in problem gambling counseling and demonstrate sociocultural awareness and competence.
