Best Practices in Serving People with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD) and Mental Health Concerns: SELF-PACED ONLINE

3 Jan 2022 - 31 Dec 2025

The rate of co-occurring mental health disorders in people with ID/DD ranges from 30%-50%, yet most mental health practitioners have little to no training related to working with people with ID/DD. In this self-paced course we'll discuss the intersection of IDD and mental health, explore topics of cultural consideration related to people with ID/DD, and examine evidence-based practices related to serving people with ID/DD.

Learning objectives:

  • Participants will understand the definition of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Participants will be able to identify the characteristics of common developmental disabilities.
  • Participants will be able to describe concepts such as person-centered-planning, person-first language, and identity-first language.
  • Participants will be able to identify evidence-based interventions for people with ID/DD and mental health concerns.
  • Participants will increase their knowledge about Nevada's services and supports for people with ID/DD.
