The rate of co-occurring mental health disorders in people with ID/DD ranges from 30%-50%, yet most mental health practitioners have little to no training related to working with people with ID/DD. In this self-paced course we'll discuss the intersection of IDD and mental health, explore topics of cultural consideration related to people with ID/DD, and examine evidence-based practices related to serving people with ID/DD.
By the end of this presentation:
Participants will understand the definition of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Participants will be able to identify the characteristics of common developmental disabilities.
Participants will be able to describe concepts such as person-centered-planning, person-first language, and identity-first language.
Participants will be able to identify evidence-based interventions for people with ID/DD and mental health concerns.
Participants will increase their knowledge about Nevada's services and supports for people with ID/DD.
