Description

This course prepares Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS) to effectively support individuals with lived experience of mental health and/or substance use challenges who are impacted by the criminal justice system. Participants will explore the unique role of peer support within forensic settings and across justice-involved service systems, emphasizing recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma-informed approaches.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this presentation, participants will:

• Summarize services and intervention goals tied to forensic support.

• Examine evidence-based and promising practices for support of individuals with justice system experiences.

• Practice legal and professional standards required to work in forensic support.

• Implement responsivity principles when providing services to individuals with justice system experiences.

• Integrate peer support services into the continuum of care model.
