This course is brought to you by CASAT at the University of Nevada, Reno in collaboration with the AZ Peer and Family Career Academy
This course prepares Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS) to effectively support individuals with lived experience of mental health and/or substance use challenges who are impacted by the criminal justice system. Participants will explore the unique role of peer support within forensic settings and across justice-involved service systems, emphasizing recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma-informed approaches.
By the end of this presentation, participants will:
Summarize services and intervention goals tied to forensic support.
Examine evidence-based and promising practices for support of individuals with justice system experiences.
Practice legal and professional standards required to work in forensic support.
Implement responsivity principles when providing services to individuals with justice system experiences.
Integrate peer support services into the continuum of care model.
