This class will offer an in-depth exploration of ethics in individual therapy, with a focus on practical application for behavioral health clinicians. It covers foundational ethical principles, professional codes from organizations like ACA, NAADAC, and AAMFT, and examines real-world dilemmas through case examples. Topics include informed consent, confidentiality, dual relationships, duty to warn, boundaries, transference and countertransference, and the ethical use of AI in therapy. The presentation also provides an ethical decision-making model to help clinicians navigate complex situations with integrity and professionalism
By the end of this presentation, participants will:
Define core ethical principles and professional codes relevant to individual therapy practice.
Identify potential ethical dilemmas in clinical scenarios, including boundaries, confidentiality, and dual relationships.
Apply an ethical decision-making model to navigate complex situations in therapy.
Describe the ethical responsibilities related to the duty to warn and protect clients and the public.
