CASAT has received funding to implement the Accelerate Career Pathways for Substance Use, Problem Gambling Treatment, with the goal of increasing the number of trained peer recovery support specialist supervisors in Nevada. As a result, this course is now a part of the 2024 Peer Recovery Support Specialist Supervisor (PRSS-S) Coaching Academy.

Participation in the academy is available at no cost to qualified participants that are interested in becoming Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist Supervisors (PRSS-S) by the Nevada Certification Board (NCB). 

In order to be accepted into the academy, participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be interested in becoming a certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist Supervisor (PRSS-S) by the Nevada Certification Board (NCB)
  • Meet the NCB Requirements for Peer Recovery Support Specialist Supervisor Certifications as outlined here: https://nevadacertboard.org/prss-s/requirements/
  • Commit to attending one of the following PRSS Supervision in-person trainings:
    • May 17, 2024, from 9:00 AM-4:30 PM in Reno, Nevada
    • September 13, 2024, from 9:00 AM-4:30 PM in Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Commit to attending two (2) out of four (4) offered, 1-hour PRSS-S Virtual consultation groups by the end of 2025.
  • Complete the PRSS-S Academy application form no later than May 10th, 2024 for Reno, Nevada, or August 30th, 2024 for Las Vegas, Nevada. Application form: https://casatunr.wufoo.com/forms/nevada-prsss-coaching-academy-application/

When your application has been reviewed and approved, you will receive the passcode to complete your registration at no cost.


A certified peer recovery and support specialist supervisor (PRSS-S) is an individual who supervises PRSS workers with lived experience in recovery from substance use, problem gambling, mental health and/or other co-occurring challenges. As of August 1st, 2023, anyone supervising Peer workers needs to be certified in Nevada. Supervisors will develop an understanding of the role of peer workers, the responsibilities of a supervisor, and effective supervision strategies.

Learning Objectives:

1. Clearly define the role of a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS).

2. Gain familiarity with the Domains and Guiding Principles of Recovery.

3. Understand the process of becoming a Certified PRSS in Nevada.

4. Apply supervision techniques and strategies to effectively support peer-based recovery supports.

5. Acquire knowledge on the steps involved in becoming a Certified PRSS Supervisor.

This training is approved for continuing education by the Nevada Certification Board for PRSS as well as by the boards listed here. This course DOES NOT satisfy supervision hours for the LADC/CADC board.
