Sponsorship Note: This training is brought to you by CASAT, in collaboration with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, and supported through funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
This course is designed to teach clinicians bottom-up approaches for autonomic nervous system regulation in addictive disorders. When clients are stuck in a chronic physiological state of nervous system dysregulation, talk therapy alone might not suffice in restoring a sense of safety.
By the end of this presentation, participants will:
Explain how trauma affects the nervous system and contributes to substance use and addiction.
Describe the principles of neuroscience and polyvagal theory that support embodied, trauma-informed interventions.
Identify trauma-informed practices, including yoga, breathwork, and somatic grounding techniques, that promote nervous system regulation.
Apply a practical framework for integrating embodied, trauma-informed interventions into existing treatment protocols
