This 3-hour continuing education workshop is designed for behavioral health and medical professionals seeking to strengthen their ability to identify and treat gambling-related problems. The training reviews current diagnostic guidelines for gambling disorder, including DSM-5-TR criteria, severity specifiers, and common comorbidities. Participants will examine prevalence rates and epidemiological trends in problem and disordered gambling, including emerging issues related to online gambling and sports betting, with attention to high-risk and underserved populations.
The workshop emphasizes practical, evidence-based clinical skills, including validated screening and assessment tools and empirically supported treatment approaches. Attendees will learn strategies for integrating gambling disorder screening, diagnosis, and treatment planning into routine clinical practice across settings.
Upon completion of this continuing education activity, participants will be able to:
Describe DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria and differential diagnostic considerations for gambling disorder.
Summarize current prevalence rates and epidemiological trends in problem and disordered gambling in the United States.
Identify key risk factors associated with the development of gambling-related problems.
Select validated screening and assessment tools for identifying problem gambling in clinical settings.
Apply evidence-based treatment approaches and integrate gambling-related care into ongoing clinical practice.
