This course will provide training in ethics specifically tailored for Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS). Peers play a crucial role in assisting individuals in their journey of recovery from substance use and mental health challenges. Given the unique dynamics of their role, it's imperative for PRSS to uphold the highest ethical standards to ensure the well-being and trust of those they serve.

Through this training, participants will delve into ethical principles, guidelines, and dilemmas that are inherent to the peer support specialist role. The course will cover a wide range of topics, including confidentiality, boundaries, self-disclosure, dual relationships, and professional conduct.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this presentation, participants will:

  • Define the role of a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) and the Recovery Values.

  • Recognize the importance of proper conduct and ethics in the helping professions as a Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS).

  • Know and understand the Codes of Ethics for Peers in the state of Nevada and the ethical violations process.

  • Learn to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality with clients to ensure a professional and supportive relationship while avoiding situations that could lead to conflicts of interest or harm.
