Training Goal:  To equip correctional mental health professionals with a criminological framework for understanding criminal behavior, identifying criminal thinking patterns, and implementing evidence-based, neurologically informed interventions that reduce institutional challenges and long-term recidivism risk. 

Learning Objectives

By the end of this presentation, participants will:

  • Explain criminological theories that account for why some individuals engage in criminal behavior while others facing similar social conditions and circumstances do not

  • Identify core criminal thinking errors and distinguish them from symptoms of mental illness

  • Apply evidence-based assessment tools to evaluate criminal thinking

  • Describe neurological and neurodevelopmental factors associated with criminal behavior

  • Implement effective, brain-informed interventions that address criminogenic thinking while respecting ethical and clinical standards
