Strategies to Reduce Substance-Related Harms for Peer Recovery Support Specialists: LIVE WEBINAR

5 Sept 2025

This brief training will equip participants with the knowledge and abilities to address substance use-related harms. Participants will learn about the harm reduction movement's history, philosophy, and core principles, which prioritize reducing the negative consequences of substance use and other high-risk behaviors rather than focusing on abstinence. Participants will also learn about standard tools and strategies to minimize harm and better understand recovery pathways, incorporating these principles to deliver person-centered peer recovery support services.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to describe the history, philosophy, and core principles of the harm reduction movement

  • Participants will better understand the continuum of substance use and how use intersects with a variety of factors that adversely impact people who use drugs

  • Participants will learn to identify and address stigma and biases to deliver person-centered peer recovery support services

  • Participants will have an understanding of multiple pathways of recovery, including ones that are not abstinence-based

  • Participants will learn standard tools and strategies to reduce substance-related harms
