Psychiatric Advance Directives (PADS): Research and Regulations Review: LIVE WEBINAR Registration Closed

 A psychiatric advance directive (PAD) is a legal tool that allows a person with mental illness to state their preferences for treatment in advance of a crisis. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has made PAD compliance a “condition for participation” to receive reimbursement from these federal payers and recently implemented new key quality measures focused on PAD implementation on psychiatric units, and most states in the US have enacted laws regulating PAD utilization in clinical practice. The presentation will provide a review of historical precedents, peer-reviewed research, laws and regulations focusing on utilization of Psychiatric Advance Directives.  

Learning objectives: 

• Examine utility of psychiatric advance directives in clinical practice; 

• Understand the scope of preferences that patients can specify in psychiatric advance directives; 

• Recognize obligations of and immunities granted to the health care staff under NRS 449A.600 – 449A.645.
