Become aware of coercive control and how it is at the core of understanding domestic violence.
Learn about the impact of coercive control on the health and well-being of person who is being abused by their partner.
Become familiar with effective strategies to better support persons experiencing DV-related coercive control.
Laurie Thompsen, MSW
Laurie Thompsen has worked at the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WVCADV) for the past for 25 years. Thompsen was the Health and Behavioral Health Projects Manager, and during the past three years has been the Weave WV Project Manager. Weave WV is a multi-agency cooperative project that focuses on approaches to addressing the intersection of substance use coercion, mental health coercion and domestic violence, especially in the lives of pregnant and parenting women. Her work has involved collaborations with a variety of health and behavioral health programs in both clinical and non-clinical settings. She participates on several advisory boards, including the National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma, and Mental Health, as well as workgroups and initiatives that focus on health and behavioral health issues in relation to domestic violence. She trains extensively with a focus on trauma-sensitive approaches to addressing DV.
