Navigating Ethical Crossroads in Modern Healthcare Practice (Reno): IN-PERSON CLASS

In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, ethical decision-making is more critical than ever. Whether you’re a licensed therapist guiding clients through complex emotional terrain, a substance abuse or problem gambling counselor addressing addiction challenges, or a medical professional navigating interprofessional care teams, your ability to uphold ethical standards directly impacts client outcomes and professional integrity. This workshop offers an interactive deep dive into the principles of ethics that unite us across disciplines while addressing the unique challenges faced by each role. Key topics will include professional codes of ethics (e.g., AAMFT, ACA, NASW, NAADAC, AMA, ANA), Nevada-specific laws governing practice, and how recent legislative changes may affect your work. Through real-world case studies and group discussions, participants will gain practical tools for maintaining strong professional boundaries, collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and understanding multiple scopes of practice—all while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical obligations. Attendees will leave empowered with actionable strategies to navigate ethical dilemmas confidently.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will identify and apply foundational ethical concepts outlined in major professional codes of ethics relevant to mental health, substance abuse counseling, peer support, and medical professions.

2. Participants will recognize potential boundary issues in therapeutic and professional relationships and develop proactive strategies to maintain appropriate professional limits.

3. Participants will review best practices for working effectively within interprofessional care teams, including resolving conflicts, promoting shared decision-making in the best interest of clients/patients, differentiating between tasks within and outside various scopes of practice, and identifying resources for consultation when encountering ambiguous situations.

4. Participants will have the opportunity to analyze the implications of 2025 legislative updates on healthcare delivery and devise plans to integrate these changes into daily practice ethically and legally.
