Confidentiality & HIPAA, Ethics, and De-Escalation: Nov 2024: LIVE WEBINAR

7 Nov 2024

Confidentiality & HIPAA: This workshop will cover Federal and Nevada rules of confidentiality with an emphasis on practical solutions to real problems. Updates related to Part 2 Final Rule which recently came out will be discussed.  Topics will include: what is a proper consent for release of information, how to respond to a subpoena, exceptions to the general rule for releasing information, and child and elder abuse reporting requirements. Additionally, a guide to duty to warn within the required regulations will also be provided. (This course is required for interns as well as for licensed or certified counselors who are renewing their license or certificate.)

Ethics: Behavioral health professionals face many different and complex ethical issues. Concerns regarding dual relationship, scope of practice, professional conduct, mandatory reporting and other ethical issues frequently arise. In this course, these ethical issues will be discussed in the context of the ethical standards in the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 641C related to Substance Use Treatment as well as other relevant regulations for MFT’s and Social Workers. The techniques and principles presented in this workshop will benefit substance use counselors, social workers, marriage and family counselors and other behavioral health practitioners.

De-Escalation 101: Behavioral health, mental health, medical and allied health care professionals are likely to encounter situations in their careers in which a de-escalation intervention is the most appropriate, ethical, and therapeutic response to provide a client who is in an agitated state. This course is an introductory course on what de-escalation is, how to identify situations where de-escalation interventions are appropriate, and the de-escalation steps and techniques that one can apply in general behavioral and mental health settings. This course is not for those professionals working in population specific settings where de-escalation is required on a regular basis to maintain milieu harmony (e.g., residential setting for severe behavioral and/or mental health disorders), where more advanced trainings specialized for the specific population is appropriate.
