Please note: this is a multi-session training being held August 1 and August 8, 2024. You need to be in attendance for both sessions entirely to receive credit and certification for the course.
Module 1 (Cultural and Linguistic Competency)
August 1, 2024 | 8:30 am – 12:30 pm (PST)
Focus on understanding what cultural and linguistic competency means and the difference between being culturally competent verses having cultural humility. Identifying what bias means, types of biases and knowing your own biases and how they can impact the work you do. Strategies for individuals and organizations and ways that they can improve cultural and linguistic competency in their practice.
Module 2 (Health Inequity and Disparities) & Module 3 (Cultural and Linguistic Appropriate Service (CLAS) Standards)
August 8, 2024 | 8:30 am – 12:30 pm (PST)
Module 2: Participants will look at identifying what healthcare inequities and disparities mean, as well as what they look like in real world practice. Participants will also learn the difference between healthcare equality and equity and why this is important. Finally, the module will look at strategies for how individuals and organizations advance healthcare equity for all people.
Module 3: Participants will learn about the 15 National Cultural and Linguistic Appropriate Service (CLAS) Standards. Participants will be provided each standard and examples of what that looks like in practice. There will be discussions around why CLAS is so important in healthcare. Finally, participants will identify ways they can embed CLAS standards into their individual and organizational practices.
