Older individuals being assessed by ADSD officers may or may not have underlying mental health concerns, but if they appear to have such issues, the challenge is often differentiating them from cognitive impairment, active substance use disorders, results of threats and violence, and potentially medication toxicity. What may appear to be one thing, could be many things, and it’s the responsibility of the ADSD officers may to know when further evaluation is warranted, and to whom the individual in question should be sent.
After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
• Identify common features of common mental health conditions
• Describe expected longitudinal course for more likely mental health disorders
• Evaluate someone for signs consistent with head trauma
